CROSSOVER
THE BALLSTREET JOURNAL

I hope everyone had a relaxing Memorial Day Weekend filled with BBQs and family gatherings. The weather here in Baltimore was amazing, the drinks were flowing and the hot dogs and hamburgers were cooked to perfection. Having a Monday off is a great thing come Sunday evening, but it always seems to bite you in the ass Tuesday morning. Trying to fit five days’ worth of crap into a four-day week usually means things are falling through the cracks. I was hoping my column would be one of them this week, but the bosses said no.

I want to start off talking about Republic. They had an amazing double-impact last week with Taylor Swift f/Kendrick Lamar’s “Bad Blood” (Big Machine), as well as Sage The Gemini f/Nick Jonas’ “Good Thing.” They were the #1 and #2 Most Added tracks respectively. What’s so impressive, though, was that this is Taylor’s first time being Most Added at the format. Sure, having a name like Kendrick alongside never hurts, but it also shows just how far she’s come as an artist. Everything from the set up to preventing it from leaking to premiering it on an awards show was like a well-oiled machine. It’s gonna be fun watching her break records and seeing just how far she can push the boundaries of multiple formats. The record debuted at #31 this week, getting 817 spins; it’s #27 on the real-time chart as of Tuesday morning. Sage The Gemini f/Nick Jonas’ “Good Thing” came in at #46 this week, gaining 415 spins. It’s also now on the building chart, at #37, and will certainly debut this week. They also have Nicki Minaj’s “The Night Is Still Young” (YMCMB) moving to #19, up 424 spins, and Tove Lo’s “Talking Body” (Island) at #30.

John Strazza, Inca and Lori G at RCA have Tinashe’s “All Hands on Deck” at #13 and Kid Ink f/Dej Loaf’s “Be Real” (Alumni/88Classic) at #15, up 500 spins. Pitbull f/Chris Brown’s “Fun” (Polo Grounds) climbs to #21, gaining 235 spins. Deorro X Chris Brown’s “Five More Hours” is now #49, and added 75 spins. They just impacted Miguel f/Wale’s “Coffee” last week and will impact A$AP Rocky f/Rod Stewart, Miguel & Mark Ronson’s “Everyday” this week.

The crew of Rick Sackhiem, Noah Sheer and Scott Maness at Def Jam have Rihanna’s “BBHMM” (Roc Nation) sitting at #7 with an increase of 215 spins. Jeremih f/Flo Rida’s “Tonight Belongs to U!” is at #35, up 85 spins. They’re impacting Big Sean’s “One Man Can Change the World” this week.

Columbia’s Ayelet Schiffman and James White take J. Cole’s “Wet Dreamz” (Roc Nation) inside the Top 20, adding 290 spins. Omi’s “Cheerleader” leaps #32-27 this week and tacks on 300 new spins. Dillon Francis & DJ Snake’s “Get Low” (Mad Decent) is at #33. They’re impacting Samantha J f/Dej Loaf’s “League of My Own” next week.

Epic’s Sujit Kundu takes Jidenna’s “Classic Man” (Wondaland) to #12 this week, up an additional 240 spins. Fifth Harmony f/Kid Ink’s “Worth It” (SYCO) is at #26, and Future’s “Commas” is at #32. There’s a brand new remix of the latter that features Rick Ross and Big Sean. Make sure you check it out. Meanwhile, Janelle Monae & Jidenna’s “Yoga” (Wondaland) continues to build; it’s at #59 this week. They’re impacting Tink’s “Million” this week.

Lee L’Heureux and Warner Bros. take Jason Derulo’s “Want to Want Me” (Beluga Heights) Top 5, and it’s still growing. It was up 350 spins this week.
