Specialist dance independent record label 3 Beat has renewed its JV with Universal Music U.K. after enjoying success with gold and platinum records from Sigma, Martin Jensen, Kungs, Philip George, Skepta and Fuse ODG.
Founder Jon Barlow said “Renewing our deal with Universal was such an easy decision because we work incredibly well together, as is evident in the level of success we’ve had to date. The new JV continues to allow 3 Beat to operate autonomously as an independent whilst being able to plug into some of Universal’s key departments and infrastructure to give us real clout.”
Barlow said the new multi-year agreement allows them to sign a wider range of artists. “We want genuine, international, breakthrough moments – and to develop them fully, which takes time in the modern music business.”
3 Beat first signed a deal with UMG in 2010. Universal Music UK chairman David Joseph said, “Jon has exceptional A&R instincts and is very obviously on his way to building 3 Beat into a label with a lasting legacy. He is fiercely independent and the beauty of our deal is that he can tap into us how and when he needs to, both in the U.K. and globally.”
