PUSSY RIOT'S PETER VERZILOV IN HOSPITAL AFTER POSSIBLE POISONING
Pussy Riot spokesperson Peter Verzilov is reportedly in critical condition, possibly from poisoning, and is now undergoing treatment in the toxicology unit of Bakhrushin City Clinical Hospital in Moscow.
The band have been persistent and unflinching critics of Vladimir Putin and his administration, and members have been imprisoned repeatedly. Putin and his associates have frequently been accused of poisoning their political enemies.
Russian-Canadian artist/activist Verzilov is a publisher of independent news site Mediazona as well having been part of the band's circle and husband to member Nadezhda Tolokonnikova; according to a report, he has begun losing his sight, speech and mobility.
In 2012 the band reportedly disavowed him as a spokesperson, but he joined members of the group in a 2018 World Cup protest that landed them in jail.
