SOME FOLK WERE SURPRISED BY THIS

We were surprised to learn that Joan Baez nominated for Best Folk Album Grammy (for Whistle Down the Wind, on the Joan Baez label), has never won a Grammy. She received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Academy in 2007 and is in the Grammy Hall of Fame, but has yet to take home the gold.

This gave us pause, since in addition to being a progenitor of the folk movement, one of the finest singers alive (who's recorded amply in English and Spanish), a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and an activist of virtually unrivaled influence in the pop sphere, the 77-year-old legend (who's also an accomplished painter) has been making significant records since 1960.

Baez recorded Whistle Down the Wind in 10 days with Grammy-winning producer Joe Henry. You can check out one song from the new set, "The President Sang Amazing Grace," below. You may want to have a Kleenex or two handy.

We'd like to thank Joan for reminding us how little we've accomplished.
