Proud North Carolina native J. Cole—wearing a Hornets jacket—had the crowd singing along, and cheering when he shouted out 21 Savage, during his halftime performance at the NBA All-Star Game Sunday night from Charlotte’s Spectrum Center. That included the members of Team LeBron after coach Mike Malone granted James’ request to spend the break on the floor rather than in the locker room. No telling whether the experience inspired Team LeBron to eradicate a 20-point deficit and prevail over Team Giannis.
Cole also provided a highlight of Saturday night’s Slam Dunk Contest, as the Knicks’ Dennis Smith Jr. leaped over the seated rapper, after which Cole came surprisingly close to dunking himself.
Meek Mill performed before the game, which featured numerous alley-oop plays, including a jaw-dropping bounce pass from Charlotte native Steph Curry to the soaring Greek Freak.
