IVORS TAP TOM GRAY AS CHAIR
2/1/22

Tom Gray, a composer and a member of Mercury Prize-winning band Gomez, will take over as Chair of the British songwriter and composer org The Ivors Academy. He succeeds Crispin Hunt, who recently stepped down.

Gray has been a strong voice in the recent debate over the economics of streaming in the U.K. As leader of the #BrokenRecord campaign, he has been fiercely campaigning for changes in the way artists and songwriters benefit from streaming.

In a statement, Gray said, “In this moment, songwriters and composers feel the need for strong advocacy and representation. We are central to this industry and my intention is merely to put our interests there too.”

Academy CEO Graham Davies added: “The reputation of the Ivors Academy as the leading advocates for songwriters and composers is growing. Tom is one of the most vocal champions of music and we look forward to working with him in this new role.”

Hunt stepped down last week after five years at the helm of the organization.
