British singer and songwriter Sam Ryder, who has risen to prominence on TikTok, will represent the U.K. at this year’s Eurovision song contest. The artist was selected by TaP Music.
The song he’ll be performing at Eurovision is titled “Space Man” and was co-written with Amy Wadge and Max Wolfgang. It’s out now and has already topped the U.K. iTunes chart.
Ryder is currently the most followed U.K. artist on TikTok with 12m followers and 100m likes, thanks to the covers he posted during the pandemic lockdowns in 2020 and beyond.
After gaining fans in the likes of Justin Bieber, Sia and Alicia Keys, he signed to Warner’s Parlophone and released a debut EP last year.
TaP Music led the search for a Eurovision contender this year in a bid to improve the U.K.’s poor recent history at the contest (the last British act to win was back in ’97). The ceremony takes place in Turin, Italy in May.
