Apple Corps Ltd./UMG is unleashing The Beatles 1+, a video-studded follow-up to the famed hits compilation boasting two Blu-ray discs and a CD—with 27 video clips and 27 audio tracks, all deliciously remixed. The expanded Deluxe Edition contains 50 tracks and 50 restored videos with new stereo and surround audio mixes. The package is a gorgeous hardbound book stuffed with amazing pics and historical detail, of course, but the revelation is the Fabs' remarkable ingenuity in the visual realm. From their cracking onscreen chemistry on early material like "Love Me Do" and "Can't Buy Me Love" to the psychedelic-era absurdity and shaggy rock vibes of their late period, the set is an indispensable reminder that the Beatles helped to invent the music video. Of course, it doesn't hurt that these are a 27 of the greatest songs of the last half-century.
