Capitol’s Katy Perry has taken the lion from her 2015 Super Bowl performance out of storage and will auction it off as part of a physical/digital NFT combo drop in partnership with NFT-marketplace operator Theta Network.
Perry opened the halftime show of SB XLVI by entering what was then known as University of Phoenix Stadium (now State Farm Stadium) atop a giant golden lion while singing her 2013 hit “Roar.”
Fans will have the chance to bid for the lion along with a limited-edition selection of NFTs, the first of which is a collection of digital content titled “The Roar Package: Looking Back While Moving Forward.” The opportunity coincides with preparation for Perry’s upcoming Play residency at the Resorts World Las Vegas hotel, which begins on 12/29.
“By starting a residency in Las Vegas, I’m following in the footsteps of some personal heroes of mine,” said Perry. “Fans will be able to own part of the show and my musical story in the form of Theta NFTs. The moments we’re auctioning will serve as a kind of highlight reel of the past and present of my career, so they’re very significant and personal."
Perry further remarked on her Sin City residency, "If I see anyone from HITS anywhere near the place, I'm calling security.”
