U.K. CHARTS: THE GLASTONBURY EFFECT KICKS IN

Harry StylesHarry’s House (Columbia) returns to the top of the U.K. Official Albums Chart for a fourth non-consecutive week as the Glastonbury effect kicks in for Billie Eilish, Sam Fender and a band Paul McCartney was in half a century ago. Kate Bush continues her reign at singles.

After headlining Glastonbury on 6/24, Darkroom/Interscope’s Eilish winds up with three albums in the Top 40: Happier Than Ever rises 18 slots to #10 on an 84% sales spike; 2019’s When We Fall Asleep Where Do We Go is up 36 spots to #25 (+78%); and 2018’s Don’t Smile at Me shuffles 42 places to #39 (+51%).

Fender’s current Seventeen Going Under (Polydor) more than doubled its weekly sales and streams tally, rising 44 chart places to #19, with his Hypersonic Missiles soaring 95 slots to #33 (+103%). “Seventeen Going Under” rose 40 places, to #20, at singles.

Olivia Rodrigo’s SOUR (Geffen) is up two to #7 on a 30% spike in sales and streams. Kendrick Lamar’s Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers (Interscope) jumps four places to #20 (+27%). The Beatles collection 1 (Apple/EMI) is up six places to #24 (+39%). And Wet Leg’s self-titled Domino debut is up 48 to #29.

The highest-charting new release of the week is Porcupine Tree’s 11th studio album, Closure/Continuation (Music for Nations), which opens at #2. It’s the group’s first U.K. Top 5. Chris Brown’s 10th album, Breezy (RCA), enters at #6, and Conan Gray’s Superache (Island) debuts at #8.

A couple of firsts: Luke Combs makes his U.K. Top 10 debut, with third LP Growin’ Up (Columbia Nashville) landing at Number 9, and GIVĒON achieves his first U.K. Top 40 album with Give or Take (Epic).

At singles, Bush’s “Running Up That Hill” (Fish People) racked up 7.3m audio and video streams to secure a third consecutive week at #1. Scottish DJ duo LF System’s “Afraid to Feel” (Warner) ascends to a new peak of #2.

Beyonce’s “Break My Soul” (Parkwood/Columbia) scoots up 17 slots to #4, making it her 20th solo U.K. Top 10 hit. Following the release of the film Elvis, Doja Cat’s “Vegas” (RCA) rolls into the Top 40 for the first time; Doja’s 13th Top 40 hit is #35.
