HIGHER VOLT-AGE
11/20/15

Son Volt was the lesser-known of two bands to emerge from the ashes of the great alt-country band Uncle Tupelo, the other being alumnus Jeff Tweedy's Wilco. Jay Farrar's Son Volt was neither as commercially successful nor as musically experimental as Wilco, but their 1995 album Trace was an exceptionally tuneful and undeniably soulful set—and has aged beautifully. Rhino's "Expanded" set features a remastered version of the complete album (including greats like "Drown" and "Tear Stained Eye"), acoustic demos and a second disc recorded live at The Bottom Line in '96.
