A DOWN "HOME" JAM FOR VETS
8/13/15

Country fans flocked to Nashville's Bridgestone Arena last night for the sold-out 40th anniversary of Charlie Daniels' Volunteer Jam. Eric Church, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Blackberry Smoke delivered surprise performances. Daniels and Church dueted on "In America." Skynyrd closed the evening with classics like "Sweet Home Alabama," "Gimme Three Steps" and "Free Bird."

Also on the bill were Ted Nugent, Alabama, Lee Greenwood, Ryan Weaver, The Kentucky Headhunters, The Oak Ridge Boys, Travis Tritt, Mongtomery Gentry and Wynonna, among others. Weaver, a vet and former Blackhawk pilot, offered a video tribute to his brother, who gave his life in Iraq.

The event raised hundreds of thousands in proceeds to aid U.S. military and veterans via The Journey Home Project, which was co-founded by Daniels and manager David Corlew. Sponsor Henry Repeating Arms donated a $200k check onstage.

That's Country for the country.
