The Atlantic Records R&B singer’s Chapter V debuts at #1, his first-ever chart-topper, with a total of 135k in sales this week, topping the #2 peak of his last album, 2010’s Passion, Pain & Pleasure, which bowed selling 240k in Sept. of that year.

That total is more than enough to defeat last week’s #1 finish by Def Jam/IDJ rapper 2 Chainz, whose Based on a T.R.U. Story sinks to #2.

Veteran hip-hop artist DJ Khaled’s Cash Money/Republic debut, Kiss the Ring, is the week’s other top newcomer, nestling in at #4, as Capitol/EMI’s Now 43 (#3) and A&M/ Octone’s resurgent Maroon 5 (#5, +9%) sandwich him in the Top 5.

Republic’s Owl City album, Midsummer Station, with its hit Carly Rae Jepsen duet, “Good Time,” debuts at #7, while Provident Christian group Tenth Avenue North bows at #9.

Island/IDJ’s Justin Bieber (#6), Def Jam/IDJ’s Rick Ross (#8) and Syco/Columbia’s One Direction (#10) complete the sales leaders.

That gives Republic/IDJ boss Barry Weiss a nifty five of the Top 10.

Other Top 50 new entries include Broken Bow’s Dustin Lynch’s self-titled debut (#13), Loud & Proud/Roadrunner’s Lynyrd Skynyrd (#16), Republic’s Dispatch (#21) and Wind-up’s The Darkness (#47).

Re-entries include Columbia’s Train (#34), off their Today Show appearance, Republic’s Florence + the Machine (#42), Big Machine’s Rascal Flatts (#43) and Taylor Swift (#45), Def Jam/IDJ’s Rihanna (#46) and Capitol Nashville/EMI’s Dierks Bentley (#50).

YM/CM/Republic’s Drake (#37-22, ++51%) tops the list of double-digit gainers, followed by 19/RCA’s Kelly Clarkson (#35-27, +34%), Republic’s Of Monsters & Men (#26-18, +24%), Atlantic’s Hunter Hayes (#41-40, +18%), Fueled by Ramen’s fun. (#12, +15%), Mercury Nashville’s Lionel Richie (#23-19, +14%) and YM/CM/ Republic’s Nicki Minaj (#29-23, +14%).

Due to the Labor Day holiday, the next big release date will be Sept. 11, which includes RCA’s Dave Matthews Band, Columbia’s Bob Dylan, American/Republic’s Avett Brothers and Seven Arts’ DMX.
