The New York City police officers' union on Monday called on its members to boycott a series of Bruce Springsteen concerts because of his new song about the police's controversial 1999 killing of an unarmed black man. Springsteen's "American Skin" makes reference to the shooting of immigrant Amadou Diallo, who died in a barrage of 41 gunshots fired by New York City police officers. PBA asked its members not to attend the Springsteen Madison Square Garden shows. Beginning Monday night (6/12), the Boss is slated to perform 10 shows there, his first at that venue in 12 years. PBA also asked officers moonlighting as security guards at concert venues to not do so for the performances. Off-duty officers decided not to break ranks by going inside but did show up at the event. A fan said, "It was the first time in years I was able to scalp a really good seat on the Garden floor for only $5,000. The Boss rules… F*** the Police!"
