Warren (MI) City Attorney General George Constance received an anonymously mailed letter from a group calling itself the South Warren Street Kids, who were threatening to torch Detroit unless felony weapons charges against Eminem, a Warren homeboy, were dropped.
According to a report Tuesday in the Detroit Free Press, the hand-written, two-page letter was strewn with obscenities. "We're coming uptown with 20-oz. Mountain Dew bottles full of gasoline and charcoal lighting fluid and matches," the letter read.
Note to junior terrorists: Molotov cocktails work best with containers that are not—like 20-oz. plastic soda bottles—shatter-resistant.
Constance had characterized Eminem's behavior as thuggish and unacceptable, and he had said that if Macomb County Prosecutor Carl Malinga didn't press charges, he would do so himself.
Though not directly threatened by the letter, Constance was concerned enough to temporarily relocate his wife and two children. He called the letter's author a "coward" and a "bottom-feeder," adding, "If I find out who did this, I will prosecute them."
"I'm confident he [Eminem] had nothing to do with any such letter and would not condone it," said Howard Hertz, Eminem's attorney. Hertz cited the rapper's peaceful and life-affirming lyrics as proof.
