LIQUID AUDIO OFFERS CATALOG OF DOWNLOADS ON SONY ELECTRONICS SITE

Two Companies Integrate Software, Share Downloads
While the world waits for a Napster-enabled Stairmaster, it can occupy itself with a Sony-branded Liquid Audio player.

A deal between Sony Electronics and Liquid Audio gives Sony an expanded range of music content and provides Liquid direct access to electronics consumers. Liquid is offering its full catalog of downloads on Sony Electronics' music site as well as the Liquid Audio site. Liquid's "secure" method of digital downloading has numerous admirers within the world of copyrighted content, though the popularity of free file-sharing applications has led some to question"secure" files' potential.

The two companies have integrated their respective Internet music delivery systems so that users can preview, purchase, download and play back secure, CD-quality music files. The latest Liquid Player software now supports Sony's OpenMG jukebox software. This will enable listeners to transfer tracks from the web to Sony portable devices such as the VAIO Music Clip and Memory Stick Walkman.

Free downloads of music from Buckcherry, Ben Harper, Freestylers, eels and others are available on the sites.

In a related story, the new Prime Minister of Japan has complained that his Memory Stick still itches.
