IN DAVE THEY "TRUST"

New Capitol President Andy Slater Launches His Regime With Release Of Navarro Album
He’s been a member of both Jane’s Addiction and Red Hot Chili Peppers, but Dave Navarro’s solo debut, "Trust No One," is not just another "lead guitarist" record, according to Capitol President Andy Slater.

"He’s a great artist and an untapped talent," says the new power in the Tower, who brought Navarro to the label with him from his Clean Slate imprint at Epic. "All you need to do is hear the record to get that dimension. He has a point of view and a great voice that’s never really been heard. But don’t quote me on that."

The album which hits stores June 19, was preceded by the first single, "Rexall," now Top 10 at Active Rock radio. The label is shipping 200k initially.

Capitol Sr. VP Domestic/ International Marketing Jay Krugman says Navarro’s role in two classic PoMo bands puts him in a unique position. "The album is a reflection of his artistry and immensely strong in its own right. As the project unfolds, I think we’ll see it do extremely well. And no, I’m not just sucking up to the new boss."

  • The album was set up in advance with a promotional van which parked at high-profile radio concerts like the WBCN River Rave and WHFstival, where concert-goers were given free sampler CDs and videos. Label street teams also hit areas of interest to skateboarders, snowboarders and extreme sports fans to promote the release.
  • Pre-release online listening parties were held on various Chili Peppers and Jane’s Addiction sites.
  • The label is giving away "Trust No One" posters, stickers, buttons, CDs and videos on JanesAddiction.com starting this week.
  • The rocker has his own dedicated website at DaveNavarro.net, with song downloads, streaming video and personal artwork from his famed photo booth.
  • Navarro plans to support the album with his own solo tour in the fall, but he’ll be busy until then playing with Jane’s Addiction and doing promotion at each stop for his own album.
  • He played with the band in April at the Coachella Festival in Indio, CA, along with a gig in Santa Barbara as a warm-up to a full, 20-30-date Jane’s tour through August on the Perry Farrell-organized Jubilee Festival.
  • Navarro and Addiction will also play the K-Rock Dysfunctional Family Picnic for WXRK in N.Y. (6/22) and the KROQ Weenie Roast the next day.
  • Navarro’s autobiography, "Don’t Try This at Home," penned with N.Y. Times scribe Neil Strauss, was scheduled for publication 6/5 on Regan Books but has now been postponed until later in the year.
  • Navarro will perform "Rexall" on Jay Leno (6/19) and Conan O’Brien (6/22). He’ll also appear on Howard Stern (6/21), as well as Rockline and a Yahoo chat (both 6/18).
  • Special dedicated listening stations/photo booths have been set up at three national retailers to spotlight the album in-store.
  • Concluded VP Marketing Rob Gordon: "The whole idea was to treat Dave like a new, developing artist, get people to listen to this record and hear he’s for real. Now when do I get to meet Andy Slater?"
