A DEVINE PROMOTION

Industry Veteran to Run Columbia’s West Coast
"Not So Tiny" Tim Devine has been officially promoted to West Coast General Manager of Columbia Records by Columbia Records Group Chairman Don Ienner and President Will Botwin. The move had been expected.

In addition, Devine will continue to serve as Senior Vice President A&R for the label, a post he’s held since joining the company in 1996.

Devine had originally requested the title "God" but backed off when told it was already held by Ienner.

An industry veteran (i.e., middle-aged guy with Porsche still hitting on waitresses at the Whisky), Devine had a long run as VP A&R at Capitol (i.e., knew the right ass to kiss during 165 regime changes), before scoring big at Columbia with Train, Crazy Town, Cake, the Aware label deal and others (i.e., he brought the hot waitress to negotiations). He currently plays a large A&R role in the careers of Pete Yorn and Five for Fighting, among others (i.e., knows how to successfully irritate all the other departments into doing things for his artists).

Added Ienner: "Over the years, Tim has demonstrated a remarkable blend of creative instinct, marketing savvy and musical understanding. Plus, I get to learn what the kids are listening to whenever I talk to one of his dates."

Said Botwin: "With many artists based on the West Coast, the expansion of Tim’s role promises to be of great benefit to the company. In other words, let them deal with Tim—I’m in New York."

"I love me," said Devine, whose other words of wisdom were muffled by the sound of Chairman Ienner’s butt on his lips.
