KILL BILL SLICES, DICES, CHOPS, GRATES BOX OFFICE

Tarantino Flick is Ultimate Chopper
Uma Thurman is a badass. That’s all you need to know about why Kill Bill, Vol. 1 took in $22.7 million this weekend, debuting at the top of the box office. Expect to read a variation on that statement in about four months, as the Quentin Tarantino-directed kung fu flick was split into two parts, with Vol. 2 scheduled for release in February.

Jack Black’s School of Rock dropped from the top to number two with $15.4 million.

Other new releases this weekend were the George Clooney/Catherine Zeta Jones-starring/Coen-brothers-directed Intolerable Cruelty, which did $13.1 million; the kid-friendly Good Boy!, which brought in $13 million, and horror flick The House of the Dead, which grossed $5.5 million. They finished in third, fourth and sixth, respectively.

Here’s the rest of the Top 10: #5 Out of Time ($8.6m); #7 The Rundown ($5.3m); #8 Under the Tuscan Sun ($4.8m); #9 Secondhand Lions ($3.3m); #10 Lost in Translation ($2.9m).
