ABBEY ROAD COMES TO A DEAD-END

But Music-Biz Legend Sam Ginsburg Will Stay With Alliance
It’s the end of an era—and boy, do we hate it when that happens.

Alliance Entertainment has decided to close Abbey Road, its famed one-stop facility in downtown Los Angeles. The operation has been run for the last 11 years by music business legend Sam Ginsburg, who will continue to work out of the West Coast, reporting to AEC VP Marketing and Indie Sales Bob Ekizian. But as of Feb. 26, all shipments will be made out of Alliance’s Coral Springs facility.

Ginsberg started in the music business in 1961, working for King Records. Before Abbey Road, Sam also spent years at City One-Stop and Music Plus, serving the inner-city music trade with a mostly walk-up cash-and-carry business.

Ginsburg insists that his customers will not be adversely affected by the change: “My L.A. customers will now be able to take advantage of AEC’s great product inventory in the Coral Springs warehouse, as well as the advanced whipping, order processing and customer-service procedures. My accounts will be amazed at AEC’s inventory, including an extensive CD and DVD selection, which our LA facility could never provide. This business climate doesn’t warrant having two inventories, when all my accounts can be serviced with one.”
