This week, Wheels rolls into your virtual driveways with another killer lineup, which we humbly suggest you check out during the halftimes of this weekend's 273 televised football games. After much deliberation, we narrowed down the keepers to an alt-rock band from
Wojahn Brothers: Don’t feel hopelessly out of it if you don’t know about these guys; until a couple months ago they were pretty much unknown. But since then, thanks to a brilliant strategy and some deft marketing moves, their song “Oh No You Didn’t” got a featured slot in the trailer for Mercenaries 2, the #1 game in the world last week. Not only that, but it’s now on iTunes and starting to get some solid radio play as well. The callout has been amazing, due in large part to the massive viral phenomenon of the trailer, which has already logged north of a million hits on YouTube. Among the stations showing the love after just the first week of servicing the record are KCXX, KCCQ, KFLY, CIMX, KRAB, KVGS, and WTFX. Things happen fast in the Internet Age.
The Vital Might: This unit from Beantown, whose genre has been colorfully described as alt-drama rock, will release their second full-length, Red Planet, come October. Pick your poison and check them out at one of these digital media outlets: Rhapsody, iTunes, CD Baby or Napster. If you dig what you hear and you happen to be in
Maiysha: The buzz continues to grow around this neo-soulstress, whose debut, This Much Is True, just dropped on the UFO-distributed indie Eusonia. Indeed, the New York-based Sarah Lawrence grad is already drawing comparisons to the likes of Beyonce and Alicia Keys in her smart lyrics and elegant grooves. Based on the traction from her budding musical career, Maiysha is now getting calls from major brands for modeling opportunities, not to mention the booking agencies. She’ll make her debut at the hallowed Apollo Theatre next month, as well as performing at an Obama benefit, while the clip for “Wanna Be” is in rotation on VH1 Soul. There’s also talk about a possible major-label deal for Eusonia, which was founded by her producer and collaborator, Scott Jacoby. It’s just a matter of time before this appealing newcomer takes off. You can sample her album at www.myspace.com/maiyshamusic.
