Metallica’s first new album in five years, Death Magnetic, and debut for Warner Bros., easily tops the HITS’ album chart this week, with a total of 510k sold since its release last Friday.

Last week’s #1, Def Jam/IDJ’s Young Jeezy, finishes second with The Recession, chalking up another 84k to its total of 253k.

Atlantic populist Kid Rock’s Rock N’ Roll Jesus continues his resurrection at #3.

Epic/Columbia Nashville diva Jessica Simpson’s Country debut, Do You Know, bows at #4 with 66k. Can a duet with Dolly Parton be far behind?

Roadrunner’s Slipknot rounds out the Top 5, followed by Geffen’s The Game (#6), Cash Money/Universal Motown’s Lil Wayne (#7) and Hollywood’s Jonas Brothers (#8).

Def Jam/IDJ rap veteran LL Cool’s Exit 13 is the third newcomer to the Top 10, landing at #9, with Decca’s Mamma Mia! soundtrack at #10.

Reprise R&B veteran Eric Benet debuts at #11, along with other Top 50 entries for Comedy Central’s Mitch Hedberg (#20), Rhino’s Natalie Cole (#21), mom & pop music’s iTunes exclusive Joshua Radin (#32), Fonovisa’s Jenni Rivera (#33), Universal Music Latino’s Luis Fonsi (#39), Konlive/Geffen’s Kardinal Offishall (#41) and Thrive’s Rock Heroes compilation (#49).

RCA/RMG’s Daughtry (#34) re-enters this week, as does Jive/ZLG’s Chris Brown (#43) and UMe/Show Dog’s Toby Keith (#48).

Mercury’s Duffy (#30, +11%) is the only double-digit gainer, with FrontiersJourney (#36, +7%), Def Jam/IDJ’s Rihanna (#12, +6%), Big Machine’s Taylor Swift (#24, +4%), Lil Wayne (#7, +3%), Geffen’s Solange (#35, +2%) and MCA Nashville’s George Strait ($37, +1%) also in the black.

Def Jam/IDJ’s Ne-Yo and Derrty/Universal Motown’s Nelly both hit the street today, along with Eleven Seven/Atlantic’s Buckcherry, 19/Columbia Nashville’s American Idol alum Kristy Lee Cook and Lost Highway’s Lucinda Williams.
