Shout-outs to HITS escapee Rodel Delfin for showing us a good time and keeping us in the loop on cool bands to check out. Joe Fleischer, another former of inmate of the HITS cesspool and now of Big Champagne/Crush Management, who was also more than gracious and moderated one of the more entertaining panels of the week.
Oh, and we can’t forget the Vegas native who stopped us on our way to check out sets from Electric Valentine and Ultraviolet Sound—apparently, we looked like spoiled socialites from Beverly Hills jonesing for blow and pills. That altercation aside, we continued the trek to The Ice House for two amazing sets. If you don’t know about these female-fronted bands, yo’re missing out on quite a scene; but have no fear—if you’re in the L.A. area, stop by Club Play this Thursday night (8/14) and get your fill. We promise you won’t be disappointed, and don’t forget your dancing shoes.
By far the most “tell it like it is” panelist award goes to producer extraordinaire Michael Patterson, who never hesitated to call out the BS that runs rampant at these get-togethers. Other notable panelists included ASCAP’s Tom DeSavia and Jennifer Knoepfle of ASCAP, who gave aspiring artists an education on the early stages of development.
