CUPERTINO, WE HAVE A PROBLEM: Apple did something unusual (for Apple) last night: It went on the record rather than issuing the inevitable “no comment.” The tech giant confirmed on its system status webpage that an unknown issue was preventing users from purchasing or downloading content from the iTunes Music Store, App Store and iBookstore. The message informed users that they "may be unable to access multiple stores or make purchases" as a result of the issue. The company retroactively updated the status page's Detailed Timeline to reflect more than five hours of downtime, AppleInsider reports. Only some distribution servers were affected, it appears, because certain regions had no interruption in service. (9/3a)
