Box Office

YOUR WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: Guardians of the Galaxy reclaimed the #1 spot at the box office (and its ST the top spot at iTunes) this weekend, bringing its four-week total to a cool quarter-billion. It’s now the top-grossing flick of the summer—in your face, Michael Bay! Teen weepie If I Stay was the top debut (and its soundtrack, on WaterTower—featuring Beck, the Orwells and others—is having a retail impact, hitting #11 on the iTunes album chart). The Sin City sequel, meanwhile, is officially a massive flop. And somebody’s gonna pay. In blood.

  1. Guardians of the Galaxy Disney $17.6m (-30%) 3,371/$5,230 (week 4)
  2. Teenage ... Ninja Turtles Paramount $16.8m (-41%) 3,864/$4,348 (week 3)
  3. If I Stay WB $16.3m 2,907/$5,626 (debut)
  4. Let’s Be Cops Fox $11m (-38%) 3,140/$3,503 (week 2)
  5. When the Game Stands Tall TriStar $9m 2,673/$3,367 (debut)

Inspirational school-sports flick When the Game Stands Tall was the week’s other winning bow. And Richard Linklater’s Oscar-bait experiment Boyhood has, in seven weeks, earned $16.5m—more than four times its budget. (8/25a)
