Lorde-Hunger Games

TEAM: Lorde has been chosen to curate the soundtrack album for Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, her publisher, SONGS, announced this morning; the pubco was a key architect of the deal. The 17-year-old artist will also provide the first single for the film (opening 11/21) and album, which will be released this fall on Republic. Director Francis Lawrence noted Lorde’s “immense talent and keen understanding of Mockingjay’s characters and themes, [enabling] her to create a song of her own that completely captures the film’s essence, [while] her insight and passion for our project make her the perfect creative force to assemble the other songs on our soundtrack.” Lorde says the prospect of putting together the music was a challenge, “but I jumped at the chance,” adding that “the soundtrack is definitely going to surprise people.” (7/31a)
