Holly Gleason RCA Studio A/Ben Folds

COUNTRY WITH A KICK: Hearts all over Nashville are achy-breaky over the news that the historic RCA Studio A is up for sale and may be taken over by a commercial development company. Supporters are being asked to join a rally Monday (6/30) at 9am outside the building (30 Music Square West). Over the past 50 years, RCA Studios A and B (the latter now primarily part of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum) were the delivery rooms for classic tracks by Elvis Presley, Dolly Parton, The Beach Boys, The Everly Brothers, The Monkees, Willie Nelson, Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert and newcomer Kacey Musgraves, among countless others. With the recent renaissance of Music Row and the rising property values, longtime studio tenant Ben Folds is adamant about keeping the beloved and highly functional studio from being turned into a Chick-Fil-A. Folds, who has been recording artists there since 2003, released an open letter to the press defending its necessary preservation. "I can’t tell you how many engineers, producers and musicians have walked into this space to share their stories of the great classic recorded music made here that put Nashville on the map," Folds state. "What will the Nashville of tomorrow look like if we continue to tear out the heart of the Music Row that made us who we are as a city?" (6/27p)
