Reilly out, Idol down

FALLEN IDOL: Fox TV Chairman Kevin Reilly is stepping down at the end of June, ending a seven-year tenure that—among other developments—saw the precipitous decline of one-time flagship American Idol. The show's ratings dipped 30% this year, marking the third consecutive downward year, averaging less than half the 20 million viewers it once routinely attracted. The singing competition had 59 on-air hours this season; though Fox has renewed it for next season, it’s expected to be allotted fewer weekly broadcast hours. (5/30p)
