iTunes charts

DOWNLOAD THIS: The wheels of commerce keep turning as this holiday week plays out, albeit modestly for most of the latest album offerings. The records with staying power include WB’s Jason Derulo, who snags a pair of spots on the iTunes leaderboard with the two versions of his debuting album; Disney’s Frozen franchise, obviously; and Pharrell Williams, who’s executed a strategic strike of dial-moving TV shows targeting specific audience niches, CBS Sunday Morning and Ellen, on which he performed the G I R L track that is presumably his next single, the Prince-like “Come Get It Bae.” Meanwhile, it’s refreshing to see some new blood on the singles chart—the latest offerings from Lana Del Rey (see below), SNL musical guest and Pharrell collaborator Ed Sheeran, buzzing Brit soul man Sam Smith and the spring-breaking Luke Bryan. We’ll take another look at the charts later this morning, once the West Coast has chimed in... It's 11:30, PDT, the West Coast has chimed in, and the two charts are, if not identical to four hours ago, close enough for rock & roll. It's worth noting that major-label veteran Ingrid Michaelson, now on Mom+Pop, is making a strong initial showing, holding steady at #2 midway through turnover Tuesday. (4/15a)
