Jay-Z

MAGNA-FIED UPDATE: As you probably noticed from the three-minute ad on last night's NBA game, Jay-Z's dropping a new album, Magna Carta Holy Grail, in July. Thanks to a worldwide partnership with Samsung, reportedly worth as much as $30 million, 1 million copies of the set (and ancillary material) will be given away via an app from the electronics giant; $5 million of that is reportedly earmarked just for copies for the giveaway. The app becomes available on the Google Play store 6/24, with music unlocked at 12:01am on July 4, 72 hours prior to the official release date. The compelling clip features Rick Rubin, Swizz Beats, Timbaland, Pharrell and others in the studio with the hip-hop megastar and mogul. In case you've been wondering, the album will come out on Roc Nation via its deal with UMG. Meanwhile, reliable sources say talks are ongoing about whether the giveaway will be factored into the album's first-week sales numbers; stand by for more updates. (6/17p)
