Nile Rodgers on Daft Punk

LE FREAK: As part of the rollout for Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories, hitting May 21 on Columbia, Intel and Vice have partnered on a series of video monologues with some of the people tapped by the mysterious French duo as contributors to the recording. The first episode of The Collaborators, as it’s called, features first-gen disco auteur Giorgio Moroder, the second, sound collagist Todd Edwards. In the just-posted third episode, which runs a little over 12 minutes, Nile Rodgers provides some illuminating details on the sessions, as well as rhapsodizing about the fundamental power of the groove. The piece ends with a snippet from what Rodgers says will be the hit of the summer, in which robotic voices repeat what sounds like “Mexican Love Key.” Fascinating piece; check it out. (4/12a)
