Sony-Ultra Pact/Patrick Moxey President of EM

THEY'VE GOT MOXEY: "2013" sure sounds futuristic, doesn't it? And as if to live up to that glittery, Jetsons-esque number, Ultra Music prexy Patrick Moxey has been granted a very 21st Century title: President of Electronic Music for Sony Music Entertainment, reporting directly (via hologram, one hopes) to SME ruler Doug Morris. It's all part of an Ultra-Sony "global strategic relationship" covering A&R, distribution, international repertoire and more. Among other things, Sony will distribute Ultra releases in North America via RED (U.S.) and Sony Music (Canada), while the partners will share resources for ex-U.S. releases. Music from Sony's EDM catalog will be available on Ultra's hot compilations, and Sony will also work closely with Ultra's artist-management company Empire Artist Management (which handles Adrian Lux, Benny Benassi, Julien Jabre and Alex Gaudino, among others). "We are excited to expand our presence in Electronic Dance Music through this new global partnership with Ultra Music," Morris remarked. "Patrick Moxey is a fantastic music executive and a proven hitmaker in this important genre." Proclaimed Moxey, "This is an exciting deal for Ultra, and I have a partner in Doug Morris and Sony Music who understands our business and shares our ethos." A remix of the press release announcing the deal is currently whipping glow-stick-wielding dancers into a froth all over Ibiza. In a related story, our own Ivana is really enjoying her new import compilation of crickets chirping. (1/23p)
