Forbes' Top-Earning Women in Music 2012

A GIRL'S BEST FRIEND: You say you like lists of famous people and the money they make? Once again you're in luck. Forbes has just published its list of the top-earning women in music for 2012. Britney Spears, buoyed by an album, tour, TV show, fragrance and a secret trove of Rembrandts (OK, we made that last part up), topped the list with $58 million raked in. But chart-topping megastar Taylor Swift is hot on her heels with $57m, thanks to a $1m-per-night average take on the road, major endorsements and, of course, the juggernaut known as Red. Next come Rihanna ($53m), Lady Gaga ($52m), Katy Perry ($45m), Beyoncé ($40m, with a $50m Pepsi deal set for 2013), Adele ($35m), Sade ($33m), Madonna ($30m) and Shakira ($20m). Nicki Minaj ($15.5m) fell just short of the list. Despite these impressive sums, the mag's Zack O'Malley notes, the glass ceiling still applies: Only eight artists on the list are among the top 25 highest-paid musicians. Meanwhile, our own Ivana would have more cash than all of the aforementioned women combined, if only she'd consent to part with her collection of original Gentle Giant pressings. (12/12p)
