GOLD RECORDS: Industry vet, rare vinyl collector and onetime Rhino Records Store clerk Jeff Gold has compiled and edited the coffee-table tome 101 Essential Rock Records: The Golden Age of Vinyl, from The Beatles to The Sex Pistols, which looks like the perfect Xmas gift for vinyl fetishists and hardcore music geeks. Among the essayists are Devendra Banhart, David Bowie, Peter Buck, Wilco’s Nels Cline, Robyn Hitchcock, Johnny Marr, Graham Nash, Iggy Pop and Suzanne Vega, as well as Elektra Records founder Jac Holzman, album-art designer Mick Haggerty and music scribes Ken Barnes and Gene Sculatti. The 260-page hardcover book will be published Dec. 6 by Gingko Press and carries a suggested list price of $39.95; it’s available for preorder from Amazon here.
