Scuffle Mars BET Awards

YOU BETTER YOU BET: The BET Hip-Hop Awards held over the weekend in Atlanta were marred by an altercation between feuding rappers Rick Ross and Young Jeezy, one-time colleagues who have been on the outs since 2010. Subsequent reports now insist the battle was between members of Ross’ Maybach Music and 50 Cent’s G-Unit Crew, but no arrests were made. It was all reminiscent of the East Coast-West Coast wars at the Soul Train Music Awards in L.A. which resulted in the death of Notorious B.I.G. in March 1997. During the show, rapper LL Cool J paid homage to the late Violator Management head Chris Lighty. The show was highlighted by several freestyle sessions including rapper T.I., B.o.B., Snoop Dogg, E-40 and Cassidy. Ross, P. Diddy, 2 Chainz and Future also performed. T.I. presented legendary rapper Rakim with the “I am Hip-Hop Icon” honor, while 2 Chainz took home the People’s Award and Lamar was named Lyricist of the Year. The show airs on BET Oct. 9. (10/1a)
