MTV VMA Sales Spikes

MTV VMAS MOVE NEEDLE: This year’s MTV Video Music Awards—with competition from the Democratic National Convention—may have been off almost 50% in total audience viewers this year, but it still saw some sales spikes for key performers. Frank Ocean’s “Thinkin Bout You” showed the biggest boost, jumping 209% in sales, with the album, channelORANGE, up 49%. P!nk’s single, “Blow Me (One Last Kiss),” saw an 89% increase and landed at #6 on the iTunes singles chart, while RCA labelmate Alicia Keys’ “Girl on Fire” jumped 88% to rank at #8 on iTunes. Rihanna’s “We Found Love” spiked 47% in sales, while the Talk That Talk album was up 49%. Finally, One Direction’s album Up All Night was up 27%, while the “One Thing” single climbed 51%. RCA EVP Promotion Joe Riccitelli saw an "immediate impact" in sales for label artists P!nk and Alicia Keys: "They both jumped inside of the Top 10 on iTunes songs chart within 24 hours after the cablecast.” (9/13p)
