YOUR WEAKEND BOX OFFICE: The Bourne Legacy, Tony Gilroy’s smart, gripping reboot of the franchise following the losses of Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass, got new life behind Jeremy Renner, opening with a solid if not spectacular $40.3 million. Jay Roach’s The Campaign, starring the generally reliable Will Ferrell, with Zach Galifianakis as his rival, was second $27.4 million. The Wednesday-opening Hope Springs, featuring Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones as a married couple and Steve Carell playing it straight as their therapist, registered an impressive $15.6 million ($20.1 million in all)—good for #4 behind The Dark Knight Rises—and appears to have staying power. And the remake of Total Recall looks like a stiff, dropping 68% to $8.1 million in week two to finish in sixth place behind Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days. Here are the stats on the top six:

1. The Bourne Legacy (Universal/Relativity): $40.3 million, 3,745 theaters/$10,752 avg.
2. The Campaign (Warner Bros.): $27.4 million, 3,205 theaters/$8,562 avg.
3. The Dark Knight Rises (Warner Bros./Legendary): $19.5 million in week four (-45%), 3,690 theaters/$5,295 avg.
4. Hope Springs (Sony/MGM/Mandate): $15.6 million, 2,361 theaters/$6,607 avg.
5. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days (Fox): $8.2 million in week two (-44%), 3,398 theaters/$2,413 avg.
6. Total Recall (Sony): $8.1 million in week two (-68%), 3,601 theaters/$2,249 avg.
