Music Meets Fashion on the Mod Side

IT’S A MOD, MOD, MOD WORLD: The Jam’s Paul Weller and U.K. newcomer Miles Kane will be the lynchpins for designer John Varvatos’ new 2012 fall fashion campaign, with images shot in Manhattan by noted photographer Danny Clinch. Weller, known as “The Modfather” for his love of that style, and heir apparent Kane, were shot against a gritty Lower East Side setting in an homage to ‘60s and ‘70s music icons like Bob Dylan and the Clash. The shoot also included a video (see below) inspired by the music-driven films of that same era, like A Hard Day’s Night. The soundtrack is Paul Weller’s “That Dangerous Age” from his latest Yep Roc release Sonik Kicks. “These images show a kind of passing of the musical torch,” says Varvatos. “You can see the influence that Paul—a fashion and musical icon—has had on Miles Kane. These two Mod men dressed to the nines provide such a spectacular contrast to their surroundings.” Kudos to industry vets, SKH's Keith Hagan and Steve Karas for making the music-style connection.
