Sheryl crow writing songs for musical Diner

ALL SHE WANTS TO DO: Sheryl Crow may no longer sell records the way she once did, but she’s got something else going these days—writing the music for a Broadway show based on Barry Levinson’s 1982 film Diner. According to a Page Six source, the production had a “creative workshop”—with Levinson, Crow and director Kathleen Marshall—just before the holidays, with Book of Mormon star Andrew Rannells reading the role of Fenwick (played by Kevin Bacon in the movie), Annaleigh Ashford of off-Broadway’s Rent the part of Beth (Ellen Barkin)and Anything Goes star Colin Donnell reading Boogie (Mickey Rourke). The actors were reportedly “blown away” to have Crow helping them with the tunes, which are inspired by the story’s late-’50s Baltimore setting. “The music is going to shock the hell out of people,” said a source. “It really delivers, and got a fantastic response.” The show will open in the fall.
