Bollywood Star Inks with UMG

HOORAY FOR BOLLYWOOD: UMG and Desi Hits have inked Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra to a worldwide recording deal. The India film icon will release her debut North American album through Desi Hits/Interscope, and internationally on Island Records U.K., while being managed by Troy Carter. Priyanka is the first major international signing for Desi Hits, which was founded by Anjula Acharia-Bath in partnership with UMG in 2010 as a home for artists with Indian/South Asian roots. "Pop music has always had a love affair with Indian culture and with Priyanka’s unique talent and experience we have the opportunities to push the boundaries of popular culture," said Jimmy Iovine. "Plus, I love Tandoori chicken.” Chopra is currently in the studio writing and recording her debut pop album in English. (8/5p)
