Gores Eyes Borders

ONE GORES’ NEXT MOVE: After losing out to Len Blavatnik in his $3 billion joint bid to acquire Warner Music Group, The Gores Group's Alec Gores has set his sights on a little less glamorous acquisition, Borders, the second largest bookseller in the U.S. after Barnes and Noble. The company has already filed for bankruptcy closing down about a third, around 225, of its stores nationwide. Gores is in talks to buy half the stores. At the same time, the company announced a new e-Book store and revamped digital strategy today. Did someone say something about locking the barn door after the cow has already gone? Alec and his brother Tom recently joined forces to buy Alliance Entertainment, which distributes DVDs, CDs and video games to stores such as Barnes & Noble, Amazon and Target. (6/2p)
