HIP-HOP ENTERS THE OCTAGON: The Urban Wrestling Foundation has launched, calling itself a union of the “urban music industry and the sport of professional wrestling.” The UWF is the brainchild of Extreme Championship Wrestling founder Steve Karel, who promises to pick up where the ECW left off, featuring barbed wire, burning tables and, of course, hard-core rap. The promoter promises “chaos previously only found on urban streets of the toughest neighborhoods in America is now coming to the ring… The turf wars and battles for domination are no longer only a staple of the ‘hood.” The company will work with Entertainment One Music (formerly Koch) for hip-hop talent, including their artist Gorilla Zoe, along with N.Y. radio station Hot 97.
