Huge upset for Album of the Year

ALL IS FORGIVEN, GRAMMY VOTERS: The recipient of the Album of the Year Grammy is…Arcade Fire’s The Suburbs. This is not a typo. Whoa. And their thrilling performance tonight—not of the perversely chosen “Month of May” but the seemingly spontaneous post-award encore of “Ready to Start”—dramatically showed why they deserved it. The evening’s other memorable rock & roll moment was Bob Dylan dusting off “Maggie’s Farm” backed by his acolytes in Mumford & Sons and the Avett Brothers, forming a phalanx of acoustics, banjos and shit-eating grins. In the remaining biggie, Record of the Year goes to Lady A’s “Need You Now,” making the Nashvillians the night’s biggest winners with five megaphones. So there you have it. (9:00 on 2/13p)
