Kid Rock's a Digital Holdout

DIGITAL HOLDOUT: On the day The Beatles' catalog finally went on sale at iTunes (see related story here), Kid Rock's new Rick Rubin-produced Atlantic Records album, Born Free, which comes out today, will not be made available at the popular Apple online retailer because he refuses to allow singles to be sold separately. The strategy didn't seem to harm his last release, 2007's Rock N Roll Jesus, which went on to sell 5 million copies worldwide, largely thanks to the smash, "All Summer Long." To get the single, consumers had to purchase the whole album. Word is that Born Free will be made available as a digital bundle on Amazon.com. It will be interesting to see what happens. With the Beatles' catalog now digitized, AC/DC and Bob Seger remain two of the last superstar acts not to allow their music to be sold on iTunes. (11/16a)
