N.Y. Times to Charge

PAID CONTENT FREE HERE: Count the N.Y. Times as the latest publication to go behind a pay firewall, starting Jan. 2011, according to the Wall Street Journal, itself a pay site. The announcement was made by Bill Keller to the Foreign Press Association last night, confirming previously announced plans. Among major publications, both Newsday and Variety are now paid sites as papers scramble for new sources of revenue amidst declining ad sales. (5/14p)
