Clapton, Yoko and Jeff

BOOMER BLITZ IN BIG APPLE: Eric Clapton has had a busy week. It started Tuesday night at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, with “We Are Plastic Ono Band," a combined concert/tribute that brought together members of the world-class pick-up group John Lennon assembled in 1969, as Clapton, drummer Jim Keltner and bassist Klaus Voorman joined Yoko Ono and her son Sean Ono Lennon. Guests included Paul Simon, Bette Midler and members of Sonic Youth. (Read David Fricke’s review in Rolling Stone here, and Jon Pareles’ review in the N.Y. Times here.) Then, last night, Clapton and fellow Yardbirds alumnus Jeff Beck kicked off their joint tour by sharing the stage at Madison Square Garden, just as they share the cover of the latest issue of Rolling Stone. But N.Y. Daily News reviewer Jim Farber felt Clapton’s part of the show left something to be desired. Next up for Slowhand is his annual Crossroads Fest, a gathering of guitar virtuosos. (2/19a)
