Columbia Breakout's Latest Brings Field Hollers to the Mainstream

It's not many current pop stars who claim Alan Lomax as an influence, but the work of the great folklorist and ethnomusicologist, who recorded back-porch blues, gospel, folk and field hollers across the American heartland, can be felt in Hozier's "Work Song." (Lest you think that's a stretch, Hozier acknowledges the debt here and elsewhere.) The latest video from the Columbia troubadour, shot at the Eagle Rock Community Center in L.A. and premiering now on Vevo, is seen below.
