Universal's Pitch Perfect 2 had a box-office bow worth singing about, earning a solid $70m in its first weekend domestically. In doing so, the film has already surpassed the total gross to date of its predecessor and beaten that movie’s opening weekend numbers by $65m. Another debut, Warner Bros.' Mad Max, opened at #2 at the box office and earned a 98% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The film was directed by novelist and 28 Days Later writer Alex Garland in his directorial debut.
