TARGET SHOOTS DOWN LABELS FOR BLACK FRIDAY RELEASES

Target has told the labels it will not support any new albums released on 11/27, this year’s Black Friday. Sources familiar with the situation have indicated Target stores are being forbidden from making late-week changes to their planograms—diagrams used to indicate the placement of items and promotions throughout the stores.

Target will be devoting all its resources to Black Friday initiatives that, apparently, do not include music. With Black Friday and Cyber Monday falling within the same chart week for the first time, wonderers are wondering if an opportunity for some big first-week numbers may be missed.
