Legendary Manager Plays Along on Documentary Now Ep About Fictional Soft-Rockers

The recent two-part installment of the IFC comedy series Documentary Now, “Gentle and Soft: The Story of the Blue Jean Committee,” features an array of real-deal artists and journalists as talking heads. But the real coup of this soft-rock Spinal Tap, created by co-starring Fred Armisen and Bill Hader, is getting none other than Irving Azoff to appear as Alvin Izoff, the iconic manager who helps two dimwitted Chicagoans become the kings of the California sound.

Azoff plays it utterly straight in recounting the rise of fall of the BJC, whom he describes as “the dumbest motherfuckers I’ve ever met—and I’m in the music business.” Check out the clip and make sure to catch the entirety of “Gentle and Soft,” which co-stars Cameron Crowe, Daryl Hall, Kenny Loggins HAIM and Michael McDonald, among others, on demand.
